After a cracking breakfast at Spadeadam, we got off to a later than planned start. Both groups were underway by 09:30 and by 09:35 had come across our nemesis.... Another flooded lane!!!! We managed to free style around it and kept dry, at least until the heavens opened. Overall though, despite some quite amazingly heavy rain, overall it was mainly dry, with just enough sun to burn the gingers. About miles into the day, we actually saw the elusive Hadrians Wall!!!! I fear that the majority were underwhelmed, but Robin could not contain his excitement! As the day went on, more and more of the wall, mile castles and turrets were visible. Unfortunately by this stage, many participants morale component was broken. There was little interest shown to the wall and sights were firmly set on getting to the pub for dinner as quickly as possible.
Thankfully it was a short run back to Spadeadam. Tomorrow will be an early start and promises to be full of interesting sections of wall, turrets, mile castles and forts. The down side: A significant distance to cover over hilly terrain. The upside: We have VIP's joining us, cake delivered by Roz Moore and Ann Natrass, beers arriving for lunch - all in all we cant wait!
