After a nostalgic meet and greet in Bangor over beers in the local boozer, Mr. Jess insulting the local publican and I recalling harrowing stories from my recent escapades, we were chauffeured by our good driver Mr. Kinniard to our 'base camp' for the next days snowdon climb.
Penn Y pass youth hostel was one of the more impressive hostels we had come across, yet even so rather than the suggestion of ' lock your bikes to the bin they'll be fine ' we decided to keep our prize wheeled possessions in our 6 man rooms, quite cramped!
A brisk start was made to the mountaineering section of our trip at 0800 after a solid fried breakfast. Carrying the 27kg dent aid dental chair up our first ascent brought a tear to many a rugged mans eye as we took turns to lug the beast up the mountain. In the grey clouds of Western Wales we took he relevant dental photos and our miniature companion Mr. Crockard, fitted nicely into our portable chair for the main photo. Our tutu's were worn on the mountain and attracted much attention, we decided we require a charity bucket for the next two mountains as it seems to be a rich source of donations. Thanks Wendy Eley for my tuck box which can double as this on scafell pike!
Once down snowdon around 11:30 we administrated ourselves, strapped on our pink fairy wings, boarded our two wheeled friends and hit the road. With a blistering initial pace we flew down the mountain. We all thought the pace would slow, however too many swollen egos and first day fever resulted in a possibly up maintainable average 18.5 over the 85 mile route! 15 miles extra were added due to a completely of course accidental visit to Llandudno,in no small part thanks to our good friend Mr Cross!
Highlights of they days proceedings were Mr. O'Neil's suspicious brown accident down his right leg, of course the obvious was vehemently denied and a dog trying to commit suicide under the weeks of Alex's bike.
With throbbing legs and bums we arrived into the services around 18:30, and later were treated to lasagne and cakes from the lovely Mrs. Crockard, whose dining room I currently write to you from this evening. Tomorrow brings an even longer ride to the lake district!
